Centerboard Yacht Club

South Portland, Maine

At long last, the results from Race 1 are available!

It seems like Race 1 weather is usually a combination of rain and fog, bur not this year. May 25 was a glorious warm night and the Racing and Cruising fleets opened up their season with a 2-lap windward leeward course from X to M5, back to X, up to N and back down to the finish. The wind went from SE to S right before the start, so the beat was not quite square. Everyone was a bit tentative off the line, so we'll keep the black flag safely stowed away for now. The combination of a fairly slack high tide and better pressure helped the left side of the beat pay off. Coming back towards Fish Pt., the left side (the other left!) payed again due to the breeze coming out of the harbor.
