Commodore's Summary of the January Trustee's Meeting and February Club Meeting

Trustees Meeting, Thursday, January 26, 2012 1900

We had a good meeting on a cold and wet evening. There were 3 trustees absent. The Commodore’s Chat focused on ideas for the 75th anniversary season events. The meeting started with the reports from committees.

Treasurer – the finances are consistent with expectations. We are even saving some money on heating to date. (Presumably from warm weather? Also adjustments made to the thermostat settings?)

Gov’t – The extension of the parking lot lease is currently in progress with Aspasia.

House – The clubhouse is in good shape and rentals have been occurring.

Membership – We have had 7 resignations to date, 3 have moved to social. One is moving from social to boating, so we need 6 more boating members. Bob is working through the waiting list to find those folks who fit the mooring spot and are interested. If any social members wish to move to boating this year, they should contact Bob Doran.

Launch – The engine swap is done, the old Honda is for sale.

Entertainment – The winter dance is scheduled for March 3. Ongoing planning for 75th anniversary events.

Mooring – The Portland Harbor Master is installing a new computerized system that should make tracking mooring information and inspections easier. The club will be working with the harbor master on the information that is needed. The mooring fee will go up $2.50.

Education – The speaker series is ongoing – Charlie Poole and John Knowles talking about the Marblehead to Halifax race – a double-handed adventure.

Facilities Planning – Met for the first time on the 25th. Another meeting is scheduled. The 2006 survey results have been distributed and gone over.

Race – The 2012 series is on the calendar.

Chaplain – No report

Finance – No report – status quo.

Technology/Website – No report

Galley – No report

The rest of the meeting was spent in discussion about the house rules, 75th Anniversary event, the club auction and the 2006 survey.

The discussion on the house rules came down to the reality of needing some sort of specific guidelines on behavior to reference for issues of concern. It was suggested that the club could do a better job in communicating specific rules through signage.

Club Auction:

It is a great tradition and a positive event that people would miss if it was not held.

75th Anniversary Events – the plan is to focus on Opening Day, Club Picnic and other smaller social events in the season and then Change of Watch. There is a plan for 75th shirts, caps, etc. Also look at a special pennant for the yardarm and possible other items.

2006 Survey Results – we looked at the results from the 2006 survey. They will go up on the website. A few comments were on what had been accomplished since that survey.

Next week is the club meeting on Thursday, February 2 at 1900.

Club Meeting Summary Thursday, February 2, 2012  1900

We had 16 members and about 25 people in attendance for the February club meeting. Jonathan Knowles and Charlie Poole talked about their experience racing in the 2010 Marblehead to Halifax double-handed racing division. It was a fascinating discussion as they told stories from their experiences doing this race, as well as sailing around Nova Scotia and PEI. The crowd enjoyed the discussion and had many comments and questions. We wrapped up the meeting with a discussion about ideas for some 75th anniversary events.

CYC's new website

In June CYC will be moving to a new website. It will have the same address, but will be run on a different platform. It will look a little different, but you will find the same functions. There will be webpages, blogs, photo albums and forums. There will also be more in depth membership management functions for the club. The Web/Tech committee has divided up the responsibility of the new website. Doug Jones is going to be working with the bridge. Bob Girsch on events, Tim Twomey on emails, Dave…See More
