Commodore's Summary of the February Trustee's Meeting

Commodore’s Summary

We had a short meeting on a very balmy February evening. There were 4 trustees absent.

Secretary – Minutes were distributed – no corrections.

Treasurer – the finances are consistent with expectations. The spring dues notice has gone out and is due back by March 15.

Vice Commodore – Burleigh will be out for a period of time as he recovers. I will handle hiring Launch operators (3 returning from last year at this point). I will also handle the auction solicitations and get assistance with assembling the auction items. Tim will assist as he can, but he will focus on the work parties primarily.

Rear Commodore – The work parties plan is taking shape. The focus will be on the two new floats. The goal is to develop a team of 8-12 people who work on the floats and learn the process of building them. Tom Dobbins will head this up. The other bigger projects will be water and power to the shed, staining the shed (Lin Cross to organize) and the usual club clean up/maintenance.

Committee Reports

Gov’t –

  • The extension of the parking lot lease is currently in progress with Aspasia.
  •  The SP planning department is working on developing a new zoning plan for the Shipyard area (which we sit in) however it is just starting and so far has not developed any recommendations.
  • There was a meeting of people interest in dredging outside of the channel (pier owners, marinas, etc) they are moving forward to see if they can get state approval to use a state controlled dumping area.
  • The federal dredging of the channel has been approved and budgeted and theoretically will happen in 2013.

House – The clubhouse is in good shape and rentals have been occurring.

Membership – There will be some new applications presented at the next trustees meeting. Currently we have 6 openings for boat owners.

Launch – Nothing to report.

Entertainment – The winter dance is scheduled for March 3. Ongoing planning for 75th anniversary events.

Mooring – Gordon will be providing information for the membership in terms of the new Harbor Master mooring system and for mooring inspections.

Education – The speaker series is ongoing – next meeting is Nat & Betsy Warren-White talking about their 3 year around the world cruise.

Facilities Planning – In progress. Planning an online survey of the membership and looking at assessing the facilities we have.

Race – The 2012 series is on the calendar.

Chaplain – Flowers were sent to Burleigh Loveitt. Deb sent a note of thanks for them.

Finance – No report – status quo.

Technology/Website – No report

Galley – No report

Old Business

The house rules have been tweaked with one addition.

  • When there is a line for the launch, and the tide allows, the launch operator may request that two people only from each boat take the launch out and then bring the boat in to the floats to pick up the remaining passengers. The same may be done during busy periods for pickups.

New Business

The auction solicitations will go out as soon as I get them organized. The date originally chosen was Easter weekend and it was suggested we push it back a week.

Comments

We received an email from Tim Reilley that he would be resigning his social membership this year. He felt that it did not make much sense to continue his membership since the current club setup discourage social members from visiting by dinghy, which in his case is the most logical form of transportation to come to the club. Bob Doran has said the membership committee would like to kick this around and try to come up with a solution. The trustees agreed that we would rather not discourage a member from participating in activities this way. There was also discussion regarding the social membership rights and how they might be used or abused. I have extended the invitation to Tim to visit the club via dinghy and participate in the club activities as a social member if he chooses to continue as a member.

Next week is the club meeting on Thursday, March 1 at 1900.

CYC's new website

In June CYC will be moving to a new website. It will have the same address, but will be run on a different platform. It will look a little different, but you will find the same functions. There will be webpages, blogs, photo albums and forums. There will also be more in depth membership management functions for the club. The Web/Tech committee has divided up the responsibility of the new website. Doug Jones is going to be working with the bridge. Bob Girsch on events, Tim Twomey on emails, Dave…See More
