Gregg Carville commented on Erik C. Jorgensen's blog post 'TOE BUSTED in the ANCHORAGE'
Eric, I hope you heal quickly. I am sorry to hear of the accident, thank you for letting us know - I have found that there are a few obstructions around at low tide (especially a drainer) and that I have to be very careful to go really slowly as I…

TOE BUSTED in the ANCHORAGE

Just thought the community might be interested in knowing that last weekend, while motoring in the anchorage around the low tide, we SLAMMED into an underwater obstruction (a rock, as it turns out) just to the north of Mooring #35.  A quick, dead stop and I went flying, and, after xrays, turns out I busted a toe. Who knew? So watch out when motoring in the anchorage at low low tide. Not the best way to end the season... See More

Erik C. Jorgensen commented on Albert F. Carville, Jr.'s blog post 'NEW Dolphin Marina Restaurant'
We've been sailing there for 20 years! This new venture sounds great, though I will miss the old restaurant where you could buy, in addition to your chowder and blueberry muffins, a spark plug or a bilge pump. We'll need to check it out -…

David Pierce commented on Erik C. Jorgensen's blog post 'Thinking of Ansel Tupper'
If you look at the Wednesday Night Races trophy on the clubhouse wall you will see his name many times. When I started racing, "Tup" was the guy we looked for when we were unsure of our strategy. He always knew how to use the current or…

Thinking of Ansel Tupper

I was very sorry to read about Ansel Tupper's death - he was a truly generous man - the first person, in fact, we met when joining CYC back in 2002. He interviewed us for membership, then was very kind in showing us the ropes after we joined. A true gentleman, he'll always be equated with the Club for us. I hope that wherever he is, he's boating!See More

Gregg Carville replied to Erik C. Jorgensen's discussion 'FINALLY ARRIVING AT CYC!'
Remember, September is some of the best sailing in Maine, and your bottom will be much cleaner and faster than other boats in the anchorage.

Favorite Anchorages?

I am always interested in hearing about new places to visit - we tend to favor out of the way and deserted places, but had an interesting experience during the horrible weather last week - we were out near Boothbay and had been headed for Love Cove when on a whim we decided to call Newagen Seaside Inn to enquire about their rental moorings - they have two which rent for $50 per night - the cost seemed steep to us, but then we heard that this includes use of the inn's facilities (though no…See More

I wouldn’t have thought of Newagen, but I will now! I had some good advice on the club cruise from my new cruising buddies: If you are in Buck’s Harbor, go to the Bucks Harbor Market around 9:30AM to get freshly baked bread! There were…

Commodore's Summary of the January Trustee's Meeting and February Club Meeting

Trustees Meeting, Thursday, January 26, 2012 1900 We had a good meeting on a cold and wet evening. There were 3 trustees absent. The Commodore’s Chat focused on ideas for the 75th anniversary season events. The meeting started with the reports from committees. Treasurer – the finances are consistent with expectations. We are even saving some money on heating to date. (Presumably from warm weather? Also adjustments made to the thermostat settings?) Gov’t – The extension of the parking lot lease…See More
